Guest Presentations and Clash of Ideas

Xing Haitao, Secretary of the Party Branch and Secretary-General of the Automobile Dealers Chamber of the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce

Xing Haitao, Secretary of the Party Branch and Secretary-General of the Automobile Dealers Chamber of the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce, began his address by extending congratulations on the convening of the conference and the release of the technical standards. He emphasized that, at a time when the automotive industry is facing intense competition and transformation pressures, such initiatives to promote industry standardization and professionalization are crucial for breaking free from “involutionary competition” and guiding the sector toward high-quality, sustainable development.

Fan Youli, Vice President of the Automobile Dealers Chamber of the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce and Chairman of Shanghai Yunfeng Automotive Group, shared the guiding role of industry group standards in driving sector development. He noted that such standards have evolved from supplementary technical documents into strategic tools for industrial governance, empowering the industry across six key dimensions: defining technological roadmaps, setting market entry thresholds, building consumer trust, facilitating supply-chain collaboration, enhancing international influence, and amplifying policy effectiveness. By following a “industry consensus–market realities–institutional arrangements” approach, these standards promote the efficient allocation of resources toward higher quality, thereby catalyzing a transformative leap in the automotive aftermarket ecosystem.

Wang Guanglei, Deputy Director of the Automotive Market Division, Department of Informatization and Industrial Development, State Information Center

Wang Guanglei of the State Information Center points out that during the 15th Five-Year Plan period, the automotive market will maintain stable volume while improving in quality, and the aftermarket will undergo a fundamental value reconfiguration. Currently, domestic new-vehicle sales have rebounded to their peak, driven primarily by policy measures and pricing dynamics. Over the next 5 to 10 years, a 3:7 split is expected between gasoline-electric hybrids, joint ventures and domestic brands, and overseas versus domestic sales. With the existing vehicle stock now reaching 350 million and still growing, and with an average vehicle age approaching 8 years, the aftermarket is entering a phase characterized by high-frequency maintenance and higher average transaction values. The rising penetration of new-energy vehicles is giving rise to new growth areas such as three-electric-system repair, while digital and intelligent technologies are enhancing service efficiency. Supported by favorable policies, the aftermarket is moving toward larger scale and greater standardization, with the growth rate of after-sales service output set to outpace that of new-vehicle sales, ushering in a golden period of development.

Pan Lihua, Chairperson of the Aftermarket Branch of the Automobile Dealers Chamber of the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce and Chairperson of Zhongwei Auto Accessories

President Pan Lihua provided an in-depth analysis of the current state of the industry, pointing out that the market is currently mired in “involution”: prices have been declining year after year, with the high-end segment above RMB 10,000 steadily being squeezed down into the mid- and low-end range below RMB 2,000—and even below RMB 1,000. At the same time, livestream traffic has reached its peak, making it increasingly difficult to sustain the traditional low-price competition model. She emphasized that, given the nature of the automotive film market—where “30% is the film itself and 70% is the application”—the installation of window films, car wraps, and color-change films respectively requires 2 hours, 10 hours, and 12 hours. The lengthy service time means that the “low-margin, high-volume” strategy simply does not work; blindly expanding customer flow and increasing the number of workstations will only exacerbate cost pressures.

Regarding the way forward for brick-and-mortar stores, Pan Lihua argues that franchising—including cloud-based franchising—is the core strategy. This approach can enhance brand visibility through unified marketing and promotion, establish standardized processes to build customer trust and peace of mind, and leverage bulk purchasing to reduce procurement costs, thereby delivering multi-dimensional value-added support. Currently, paint protection film, window film, and color-changing film
Associated construction technical specifications have also been implemented one after another. In 2026, the industry will focus on advancing certification of film-application personnel at different skill levels, organizing film-application competitions, promoting “Quality-Selected, Worry-Free Stores,” and collaborating with trade shows to deliver category-specific training, thereby leveraging standardization to drive the industry’s transformation toward greater professionalism and higher quality.

Zhou Guoping, Certified Automotive Window Film Technician by the International Window Film Association

Expert Zhou Guoping shared insights into global trends in the automotive window-film industry. He noted that automotive window-film technology has evolved from traditional dyed films to high-end products such as multi-layer magnetron-sputtered coatings, while the upgrading of original-equipment heat-insulating glass in new-energy vehicles is reshaping market demand. The car-wrap industry in China and the United States is sizable, with Chinese production reaching 6 to 8 million rolls; however, some products suffer from issues such as yellowing and cracking. Car-wrap quality is closely tied to the topcoat and the thickness of the TPU layer, and performance characteristics like stain resistance and hydrophobicity continue to improve. The industry is now moving in new directions: shifting from transparent to colored finishes and embracing anime-inspired designs. Replacing paint with car wraps can significantly reduce CO₂ emissions and has already been adopted by automakers such as Tesla and Mazda. Major players like PPG are also entering the market and making strategic investments, with differentiation and carbon reduction emerging as the core drivers of competition.

Qin Guo, Vice President of the Automobile Dealers Chamber of the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce and Chairman of the Automotive Customization and Modification Committee

Qin Guo, Chairman of the association, provided an in-depth analysis of the development of China’s custom car modification industry, noting that the sector has entered a “precision mass” phase characterized by multidimensional growth. According to Qin, the industry has sequentially passed through the niche, aggregation, conformity, and segmentation phases, and since 2023 has transitioned into the precision mass phase, with core consumer demand shifting toward emotional connection and community-based engagement. Currently, the market is undergoing a contraction: it stood at RMB 85.2 billion in 2023, dropped to RMB 76 billion in 2024, and is projected to reach RMB 75 billion in 2025. Consumer demand is becoming increasingly diversified and segmented, moving from broad, one-size-fits-all offerings to more granular, niche-focused solutions—giving rise to specialized themes such as women’s preferences, pet-friendly modifications, and fishing-related customizations. Meanwhile, automakers, investors, and digital platforms are all entering the space, with co-creation initiatives led by official manufacturers playing a particularly prominent role; by 2025, these efforts are expected to drive approximately 120,000 customized vehicles, representing a market value of RMB 13 billion.

Speaking about trends, he noted that mainstream vehicle segments will evolve into a “three-way market” structure comprising business-customized models, off-road pickup trucks, and theme-based functional vehicles. A multi-dimensional co-creation model will help automakers overcome the bottlenecks in aftermarket customization, with co-created models expected to reach 160,000 units by 2026. Moreover, the industry has entered the era of customization curators, with brand trust emerging as the core differentiator. He emphasized that the essence of customization lies in meeting the heightened needs of a niche audience and making vehicles truly unique. Despite the challenges facing the industry, customizing and modifying vehicles remains on the optimal growth trajectory.

Yin Feng, General Manager of Guangdong Yongfeng Nanotechnology Co., Ltd.

Yin Feng of Guangdong Yongfeng Nanotechnology Co., Ltd. shared his insights into the future trends of the three-film market. Currently, the car-wrap film segment is suffering from overcapacity and sustained price declines, with projections indicating that more than 80% of individual-product manufacturers will go out of business by 2026. Demand for color-changing TPU films is growing, but they face challenges related to after-sales service and inventory management. Meanwhile, the window-tinting film market is experiencing a resurgence, with innovation and product upgrades emerging as key priorities. On the marketing front, companies must return to authenticity and sincerity, while manufacturers should embark on a transformation toward “four modernizations”: differentiation, premiumization, technological advancement, and sustainable development. Yin Feng emphasized that competition in the three-film market will intensify in 2026, making steadfast commitment to quality and innovation the cornerstone for companies seeking to break through. Furthermore, South Korean window-tinting films are poised to make a strong comeback thanks to technological innovation.

Xie Hongfei, General Manager of the Hangzhou Moruitong Urban Development Center

General Manager Xie Hongfei stated that the overall size of the automotive aftermarket and e-commerce transactions are currently expanding at a robust, unstoppable pace. However, physical retail stores are mired in intense internal competition—a situation that can be broken through by embracing new growth avenues and innovative business models. First, the “new avenue” refers to digital transformation and light-customization upgrades, with the latter requiring retailers to overcome five major challenges: difficulty in attracting customers, closing sales, sourcing inventory, replicating success, and providing after-sales service. Second, the “new scenarios” encompass several key opportunities: chain-brand partnerships (offering exclusive customization and enabling rapid expansion); product manufacturers (enhancing brand visibility and driving single-product breakthroughs); product distributors (securing store partnerships and generating sustainable revenue); industry IP platforms (serving as powerful customer-acquisition tools and enabling efficient monetization); and single-store collaborations (facilitating seamless transformation while reducing costs and boosting efficiency).

Hu Zupeng, Chief Executive Officer of Wuxi Tuohui New Materials Technology Co., Ltd.
